How the answer is decided

The rules behind the checker

The same rules FSD Radar applies to every listing, from Tesla's support pages and terms. Step by step for a car you are looking at: the five checks for FSD on a used Tesla.

  1. Bought outright stays with the car. Tesla: if the previous owner "purchased FSD (Supervised) outright and is not transferring it to a new vehicle, you will receive the vehicle with FSD (Supervised)."
  2. A subscription or a trial ends at sale. Tesla: "If the previous owner subscribed to FSD (Supervised), you will need to subscribe using your own Tesla Account."
  3. The screen alone cannot tell them apart. Controls > Software shows FSD (Supervised) for a purchase, a subscription and a trial. The seller's Tesla app Upgrades screen, or a renewal or expiry date on the screen, settles which.
  4. Two dates are hard edges. Tesla stopped selling FSD outright on February 14, 2026, and the last transfer window closed on March 31, 2026. A car first delivered after June 2026, or built as a 2027 model, cannot have FSD bought outright.
  5. Luxe Package FSD ordered after February 14, 2026 ends at sale. Every 2026 Model S and Model X has the Luxe Package, and so do Cyberbeasts ordered from August 21, 2025 to February 19, 2026: the order date decides.
  6. When Tesla sells the car, its listing decides. Tesla usually resells cars with a short FSD trial, not owned FSD, even ones first sold with it.
  7. When the evidence disagrees, the answer is "Needs check", never "owned". Text in a listing never makes FSD owned on its own.

Does FSD transfer to the new owner when I buy a used Tesla?

If an earlier owner bought FSD (Supervised) outright and did not move it to another Tesla, yes: Tesla's support page says the buyer "will receive the vehicle with FSD (Supervised)". A subscription or a trial ends at sale, and so does Luxe Package FSD on cars ordered after February 14, 2026. No owner can move FSD off a car any more: the last transfer window closed on March 31, 2026.

How can I tell if FSD is owned or a subscription?

Ask the seller for a screenshot of the Upgrades screen in their Tesla app: it separates purchased features from subscriptions. On the car, Controls > Software shows FSD (Supervised) in both cases, but owners report that a subscription or trial shows a renewal or expiry date. The original order confirmation or window sticker with a matching VIN shows what was bought with the car.

Can I still buy FSD outright for a used Tesla?

Not in the US. Tesla stopped one-time FSD purchases on February 14, 2026. FSD (Supervised) is now a subscription: $99 a month, or $49 a month on cars with Enhanced Autopilot (Tesla's prices in September 2026). Buying a car whose earlier owner paid for it is the only way left to own it.

Why does the checker say Needs check?

Because the answers so far fit both owned and subscribed FSD, or point in different directions. The checker never says owned while anything points the other way. The answer lists the one or two checks that settle it, usually a screenshot of the seller's Tesla app.

Is what I enter sent to FSD Radar?

No. The checker runs entirely in your browser. Your answers and any VIN you type are not sent to our servers or anyone else's, and they are not stored.

Is FSD Radar affiliated with Tesla?

No. FSD Radar is an independent service. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Tesla, Inc.
